InstaGlam — A Success Story
Jenna Matzinger and Angie Ortiz first formed a friendship while attending Empire Beauty School. Being family oriented, they had dreams of opening a salon space where they could welcome and form close relationships with their clients. After years of determination to work together, they achieved their dream and became business partners and co-owners of InstaGlam salon in January 2023.
Jenna and Angie first sought consulting services from Bucknell’s Small Business Development Center in October 2022. Through their collaboration they developed a business plan, marketing strategies, financial projections for grants and loans, and an understanding of tax requirements for their business type. Jenna and Angie’s most challenging obstacle to start the business was relocating to a building that required a variety of updates and renovations. To help ease the burden, the SBDC assisted in researching inspection regulations and safety compliance guidelines so they could be confident the renovations would meet legal requirements.
InstaGlam is proud to offer services from head to toe including haircuts, colors, braiding, scalp treatments, and masks. They also offer nail services including gel- x, acrylic, natural manicures and pedicures. They plan to expand in the future, hiring additional employees to provide Brazilian Blowouts, facials and more.
A key part of InstaGlam’s business model was to be inclusive of everyone. To achieve that, Jenna and Angie offer appointments exclusively for people in the special-needs community, fostering a comfortable environment inside the salon. They plan to continue to provide more inclusive events and services in the community as a whole, beyond the four walls of their business.
