The Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship provides a hands-on, engaging program designed to bring entrepreneurial and economic concepts alive for students. The lessons related to the Pennsylvania Core Curriculum of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies incorporate the basic economic and entrepreneurial concepts for the students. These are the future leaders of small business in the community who start learning Entrepreneurship in Kindergarten!
In addition to working with the students, the Charter School has ongoing forums for the parents, families and community stakeholders in the region. To supplement their BIC educational programs, they actively look for partnerships with Small Business Leaders in the region. The Duquesne SBDC was recently involved in judging a competition for students in the region who pitched new business ideas. Many of the winners came from the Penn Hills Carter School leading to these winners having the opportunity to visit the Duquesne School of Business, meet with Faculty and explore age appropriate concepts for New Business Development.
A partnership has now been established between The Charter School and the Duquesne SBDC. Many ideas are being considered for collaboration beginning with Penn Hills Charter School Adults (parents, families and community stakeholders) having the opportunity to learn about Business Essentials and the resources available through Duquesne University SBDC. A presentation is planned for the end of March.
Impact and Results:
- Engaging Children at a young age and their Parents to become our future small business leaders.
- Providing parents, the opportunity to understand essential Business concepts for themselves and when working with their children
- Exposure to the work being done by the Duquesne SBDC and opportunities to work with us.
- Exposure to the Duquesne School of Business and University learning environment.
- A lasting partnership with a local BIC Entrepreneurial Charter School well respected in the community
Summary: The Duquesne SBDC is proud to partner with such a great educational organization doing such fine work with our future business leaders. In addition, this will generate clients and outreach to our local community looking for Business start-up and growth expertise. And finally, the exposure to our Duquesne University School of Business and business education excellence provides another avenue for students to enhance their already strong educational background.
