A&E Engineering Overcomes Pandemic Challenges, Thrives Under New Ownership – A Success Story

In the face of a global pandemic, many businesses struggled to stay afloat. A&E Engineering, a full-service civil engineering firm in Pocatello, Idaho, is a testament to perseverance and strategic adaptation. This is the story of how A&E not only weathered the storm but emerged stronger under new leadership.

A&E Engineering, Inc., located in Pocatello, Idaho, is a full-service civil engineering firm. Their team of professional engineers, land surveyors, designers and drafting professionals serves clients throughout the Intermountain West.

In 2020 the COVID pandemic was hard on A&E, as it was on many small businesses. While they did have to place some employees on furlough, they were able to bring everyone back. Consultant Claudia Allen helped A&E apply for and receive Paycheck Protection Program assistance. This put A&E on track to recover from a difficult year in 2021, rebound from losses and continue to grow the business. After two years of negative profits, 2022 put A&E in the black again.

In 2022, the previous owner retired, and Krystal Chanda became the new managing owner. Since then, she has worked with the Small Business Development Center to update and target their marketing efforts, and A&E regularly receives QuickBooks help from Claudia.

“Our financial trajectory has turned around since COVID. This is partly thanks to the help we received from PPP and Claudia’s Quickbooks expertise. [Consultant] Ann helped us re-set our marketing strategy to target only the clients we really wanted, so our future is looking bright.
