The Louisiana SBDC, partnered with America’s SBDC, is hosting a professional development conference that will explore, engage and elevate millennials in the SBDC network. Our mission is to target and engage millennials in order to enhance the SBDC workforce, as well as improve the consulting process for millennial entrepreneurs. This conference will also help SBDCs develop a strategic plan to help retain millennials in the network and position them for leadership roles in the future.

Learning objectives

The learning objectives will stress the importance of a Retention Strategy, the use of Innovative Resources in the workplace, and identify unique ways to Recruit Clients.

Retention Strategy is key for the development of the SBDC network, albeit considered a “flat organization,” there are opportunities to retain millennial talent by knowing the values of the generation. This objective is aimed to identify, discuss and understand millennials’ values as employees of the SBDC. It will give employers a chance to learn the expectations employees have, and ultimately a document will be created to be shared as a best practice for millennial employee retention.

We believe it’s important to take a look at Innovative Resources that may enhance our consulting process not just with millennials, but all clients. This objective is aimed to reveal, in an in-depth discussion, the tools, resources and certifications that may improve staff work ability and efficiency.

Aren’t you tired of being called “America’s best kept secret?” Recruiting Clients can be a challenge sometimes when we really want to get some cheeks in seats. This objective is aimed to help SBDCs overcome its marketing challenges, and make our services appeal to the masses, not just millennials.
